How it works What the Filter Keywords by Word Count tool does

Keeps only lines with a number of words in the range you set — e.g. 3 to 6 words for long-tail keywords, or exactly 1 for head terms.

Set a minimum and maximum number of words and keep only the lines in that range. Three or more words isolates long-tail keywords; exactly one word gives head terms; a maximum of zero means no upper limit.

Words are counted by the spaces between them, so “running-shoes” counts as one word.
