Search Console Regex Builder

Search Console’s filters accept regex, but typing one by hand for dozens of terms is slow — and one stray bracket silently breaks it. Paste the terms, pick how they should match, and copy a filter that works first time into Performance → Add filter → Custom (regex).

How to use the Search Console Regex Builder

  1. Paste the terms — brand spellings, a product line, a set of URL paths — one per line.
  2. Pick how they should match and press Continue, then Apply. Special characters such as . ( ) and + are escaped for you.
  3. Copy the regex into Search Console: Performance → + Add filter → Query (or Page) → Custom (regex). Choose “Doesn’t match regex” to exclude them instead.

What each option does

How to Use Regex in Search Console

Turns your list into a regular expression for the Search Console query or page filter, escaping special characters. Splits into several regexes if one would pass the 4,096-character limit.

Branded Keyword Filter

Keeps either the keywords that mention your brand terms or the ones that don’t — the first split in almost every keyword and Search Console analysis.

Questions

Why is my list split into several regexes?

Search Console rejects expressions longer than 4,096 characters, so a long list is split into as many as needed. Apply them one after another, or use them in separate comparisons.

Is the match case-sensitive?

Search Console regex is case-sensitive by default. The builder adds (?i) at the start to ignore case unless you untick it.

Does it work in Looker Studio or GA4?

Yes — both use the same RE2 syntax, so the regex can be pasted into their filters too.
